First visited in 2011 ,i believe the Axe has been in the same family for many years. The son of the original owner is now at the helm , and i am pleased to say its in very capable hands.Regular menu is supplemented by a specials board and a terrific wine list to suit any tate or budget,. Staff are well informed bubbly and helpful .i meet friends here as it is roughly half way between our 2 homes. The building suffered from a devastating fire a few years ago ,but has been tastefully restored and retains much of its former charm. We are always spoilt for choice for food ,and have never been dissapointed ,normally having 3 courses and superb coffee.

Visited for the first time and was thoroughly impressed. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was outstanding. I ordered the Norfolk Chicken roast, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. I didn’t manage dessert this time, but they looked divine. I’ll definitely be returning soon.

I had a wonderful experience at the Axe and Compasses. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming, making us feel right at home straight away. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between cosy and lively – a proper pub with character where you can relax, enjoy good company, and take your time.

The food and drinks were excellent. The menu is thoughtful and well-prepared, with dishes that are both hearty and full of flavour, while the drinks selection is broad enough to please everyone, from classic ales to well-chosen wines. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious, and it was clear that a lot of care goes into both the cooking and presentation.

Superb Sunday lunch to celebrate three birthdays. Excellent service, great ingredients and all well executed, our party ranging from 3 to 67 were all well catered for. Good value house wines and fabulous deserts rounded off a memorable lunch. The only negative experience was the totally selfish and ridiculous parking by other diners who blocked the way out of the car park. Black Tiguan driver, take a bow for the most stunningly stupid and self centered way to park. Clearly not the pubs fault, they were all brilliant.
